His mother Sonya had dropped out of school in the third grade, and married when she was only 13. When Benjamin was eight, his parents divorced, and Mrs Carson was left to raise Benjamin and his sr. brother Curtis on her own. She worked at two/ three jobs at a time to provide for her boys. In fifth grade, Benjamin was at the bottom of his class. His classmates called him dummy and he developed a violent temper. When his mum saw his failing grades, she determined to speckle her sons life around. She limited his television note and refused to let him outside to play until he had finished his set each day. She required him to read two library books a week and to give her written reports on his reading. This hel ped him to be frequently participative in class, which made him realise that he was not sincerely a dummy. It was at that moment that I realized I wasnt stupid, he recalled later. He began to read voraciously and he determined to become a physician; he to a fault learned to control his temper. after graduating with honours from high school, he attended Yale University, where he earned a degree in Psychology. From Yale, he went to the Medical School of the University of Michigan, where his interest shifted from psychiatry to neurosurgery. His thin hand-eye coordination and three-dimensional reasoning skills made him a superior surgeon. by and by medical school he became a neurosurgery resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
